Thelma Wornor
Lutheran High School South
Grade 11
Thelma has two sisters and one brother. She was born in the United States, but her family came from Liberia. They are members of Webster Gardens Lutheran Church.
Thelma plans to run track this spring and probably do another sport next year. Since she now works parttime, she has less time for outside activities. She enjoys her Spanish class.
Abishek Bista

Grade 11
Abishek and his family came to St. Louis from Nepal thirteen years ago. He graduated from EAGLE Tower Grove South three years ago, where he came to know Pastor Tanney through the COMPASS after-school program.
He has been playing soccer at Lutheran South, and also plays volleyball. He and his family attend the Nepalese Baptist Church.
Angel Jasper
Lutheran High School South
Grade 10
Angel and her family, including 4 siblings, are originally from Liberia, although Angel was born in the United States. Angel graduated from Word of Life two years ago. She and her family are members of St. Lucas.
She is an athlete, playing field hockey, soccer and doing track. Her favorite subjects are English and astronomy. She is also a member of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). Her family sends clothes back to Liberia to help support their family.
Deeya Magar
Lutheran High School South
Grade 10
Deeya and her family, including two sisters, came to the United States from Nepal when she was two years old, so she doesn’t have much memory of the refugee camp in which her family lived. She does remember walking to her cousins’ home for breakfast regularly because she liked playing with them.
At South, she is playing soccer and volleyball. Her favorite class is her English class. Pastor Tanney was her volleyball coach the last couple of years, and she also knows him from her involvement in EAGLE College Prep’s afterschool program.
Anjali Monger
Lutheran High School South
Grade 10
Anjali and her family, including a brother and sister, came to the United States, from Nepal when she was four years old. She doesn’t remember too much about her life there in a refugee camp. She does remember walking to a store where she could buy candy, and also remembers the pit toilets.
At South, she plays volleyball and likes her English class. Her cousin also goes to Lutheran South, and Pastor Tanney of St. John’s was her volleyball coach the last several years. She goes to the park near her home to help pick up trash and keep it clean.
